In science we have been studying magnets and magnetic properties. I have been so impressed with each scholar's ability to explain how only specific types of metal are attracted to magnets. We spent several days exploring the classroom to test which items are magnetic and which items are not. Scholars did a wonderful job explaining their thinking through our various explorations. On Friday, we spent the morning applying what we have learned about magnets to create our own magnetic Mr. Potato Head. Students were each given one can and six magnets. Once they had their materials, they had to pick various items to test if they were magnetic or not. If the items were magnetic, students were able to use them to decorate their cans. Scholars developed a plan first, then designed their potato head. Once they had finished and improved their design, they wrote about their can. The scholars then posted a picture of their can and their writing to Seesaw (https://blog.seesaw.me/mckellarsmonkeys). I was so impressed with the variety of designs the scholars created. We had a wonderful morning creating our Mr. Potato Heads.
