On Tuesday, we had the privilege of exploring a variety of careers. Our morning started with Mr. Barnhart. He taught us all about the details of being a nurse. He brought in several visuals. We loved learning about what it's like to be a nurse in surgery. The scholars asked wonderful questions including how to further their education into the world of nursing. On Wednesday during share time, several scholars reported they would like to be a nurse too. In addition, Mr. Barnhart was so thoughtful, and he brought each scholar their own surgery gown and gloves.
After we heard about nursing, we went outside to meet with some of our favorite community helpers: police officers, fire fighters, and paramedics. During this portion of the day we were able to explore the ins and outs of a police car, fire truck and ambulance. The scholars asked great questions and loved getting to see these vehicles up close.
Following our time with the police and firefighters, we went to the playground were we got to watch a real helicopter land and take off. This part of the day was a huge hit. It was very interesting learning about how they use this helicopter to help people. One of our very own scholars was the first to spot the helicopter in the sky!
| To end our time at career day, we got to learn about equine therapy. The scholars loved this portion of the day. We learned how the miniature ponies, Stormy and Chip, help others. We got to see the therapists spray paint the horses' name on each of them. To end our time with the horses, we were able to pet them. It was so exciting. |
Overall, it was a successful day. We are very grateful for the time that the presenters took out of their day to spend with us. We learned so much about various careers. Scholars have continued to discuss what they plan to be when they grow up. If you need a vet in about 20 years, there are several from our class from which to pick :)
